The weather was fantastic on Friday, so we enjoyed our lunch on the playground and had extra fun blowing bubbles and peering through binoculars. Maddison made a new animal friend!

We bought cantaloupe, peaches, tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, and squash. We counted our produce and talked about the colors. Then we ate what we bought for our snack! We had so much fun!
During our first day of school we drew self portraits and discussed what our goals would be for the year. Come take a look at our board upstairs!

Dear First Grade Parents, I am delighted to have the privilege of being your child’s first grade teacher this year. I will also be teaching music to PreK - 3rd grade students. This will be my 12th year of teaching in a classroom. Although I have taught a variety of ages from PreK through the college level, this will be my first year in a traditional first grade classroom. I am looking forward to the challenges and excitement that are coming! I have high expectations for my students, but I believe if the bar is set high, students will rise up to meet it. I will be patient, flexible, encouraging, and loving to help my students meet their goals. You as a parent will be their greatest asset to cheer them on and help them at home. I look forward to working with you in helping them accomplish great things. Anytime you have a question or concern, please feel free to contact me. The best way to reach me is through e-mail at [email protected]. You may call the school during the day at 918-752-1200. Although you may not be able to talk to me directly, the office will get your message to me. If the school does not have your most current address and phone number, please get it to the office as soon as possible. Please let me know if I need to send communication for your child to more than one household. Here is a reminder of some important dates which are coming soon: Tuesday, August 11 at 6:00 is our Back to School Bash at Kiddie Lake. We will be grilling hamburgers and hotdogs. Wednesday, August 12 from 9:00 - 2:00 is Meet the Teacher Day. This is a come and go event. Come take a look at our school and first grade classroom, and ask me questions. Please come especially if you are not able to join us at the Back to School Bash. Thursday, August 13 school begins promptly at 8:00. Students will counted tardy if they are not in class at this time. Four tardies result in one absence. School is dismissed at 3:30. I have purchased your child’s school supplies. The only supplies you will need to send to school right away is a reusable, washable water bottle and a back pack. Your child must bring their lunch each day. Please try to refrain from sending high-maintenance heat-ups in your child’s lunch. If you do send something that needs to be heated, it must be in a microwaveable container and have the heating time under three minutes. On many Fridays I will plan to have a “picnic” lunch, outside if the weather allows, or in our classroom. Please avoid sending food that needs to be heated on Fridays. If you child does not already have one, please go to the Okmulgee Public Library and acquire a library card for him or her. This card will be left at school for our visits to the library. If you have not yet ordered uniforms, please do so ASAP. You can order through French Toast school uniforms. Our school source code is QS5rxxq. That will take you directly to our school’s section of the website. Enjoy the last of your summer break. I look forward to seeing you soon. Sincerely, Mrs. Sarah Nowlin |
